BRIEF DESCRIPTION OF THE ORGANISATION
Istituto storico grossetano della Resistenza e dell’età contemporanea (ISGREC), is affiliated to the
Italian network “Istituto nazionale Ferrucio Parri”. It is a non-profit organisation (NPO), connected by a
convention to the Department of Education, the Province and City of Grosseto.
The ISGREC objectives are, in accordance with its Statute: to study the contemporary history, to collect
memories and testimonies, to protect and promote the cultural heritage, to find tools for communication
and education. A particular research interest of ISGREC concerns the relation between local and
European memories, migrants and migrations, knowledge and understanding of human rights and nondiscrimination
values. Recent experiences in a project with several partners from other European
countries have enriched our knowledge and skills.
ISGREC owns a library specialized in contemporary history, a newspaper library and many archives
open to the public. We disseminate results of our historical research through publications, multimedia
products, exhibitions and conferences. ISGREC is very active on the web (www.isgrec.it) and we publish
contemporary history books in collaboration with a publishing company.
ISGREC has an educational section which is involved in projects with schools: workshops with students,
training for teachers etc. Grosseto doesn't offer important cultural resources so our association is a
cultural reference point for the citizens and the institutions. The staff is composed of historians, teachers
and young researchers. We have skills in contemporary history, archives and library science, education,
gender culture, media production. The corporate bodies are the scientific committee and the governing

council. Approximately 20 people are involved in the project. The membership of ISGREC counts more
than 125 associates, mainly private citizens but also municipalities and other institutions.
HOW THE ORGANISATION WILL CONTRIBUTE TO THE DISSEMINATION AND EXPLOITATION OF THE PROJECT RESULTS
Since the beginning, the Institute deals with migrants and migrations, knowledge and understanding of
human rights and non-discrimination values. Moreover, the Institute improves teachers' skills in
addressing the challenges in multicultural classes. The Institute has frequent contacts with teachers and
schools and can easily involve them in training projects. The Institute is strongly rooted in the territory so
even citizens can be involved in the project
